Major Joseph Gerretz joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy in 1993.  During his tenure with PCSO, he has served as a Detention Deputy, Detention Corporal, Honor Guard, Corrections Response Team (CRT), FTO, STEP/DUI Deputy, Burglary Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Administrative Investigation Sergeant, Central District Station Administrative Lieutenant, Community Policing Lieutenant, Law Enforcement Field Training Section Commander, Patrol Shift Commander, Property Crimes Lieutenant, Special Operations Lieutenant, and Captain of the North District Station.  Major Gerretz also spent 4 years on the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) as an Assistant Team Leader.  He has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from St. Petersburg College.  Major Gerretz is a graduate of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s – Senior Leadership Program Class #18 and currently serve as the president of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute (FCJEI).
