Major Dennis Garvey joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 after five years with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Petersburg Police Department. During his tenure with PCSO he has served as a patrol deputy, FTO and corporal, a court bailiff, a detective in Crimes Against Children, Robbery/Homicide, and Youth Services, a Crimes Against Children Corporal, Sergeant in Crimes Against Children, Field Training Unit Coordinator, Administrative Investigations, Office of the Chief Deputy, Crimes Against Persons Lieutenant, Captain of North District Station. He also spent four years on the Negotiation Response Team. Major Garvey earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and his master’s degree in Public Administration/Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University. Major Garvey is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP).

Major Garvey commands the Investigative Operations Bureau where he oversees the Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Division, Threat Management Division, and the Child Protection Investigation Division.
