Captain Mike Leiner has been with the sheriff’s office since 1994 and serves as the Commander of the Youth Education and Administrative Services Division within the Patrol Operations Bureau. The division consists of the Youth Education Section and the Field Training Section. The Youth Education Section includes the School Resource Deputy Unit, Youth Services Unit, School Crossing Guard Unit, School Guardian Unit, and Operation H.O.M.E. (Habitual Offender Monitoring and Enforcement). The Youth Services Unit is responsible for a myriad of youth programs, including Juvenile Diversion, Runaways, Explorer Post 900, Teen Driver Challenge (TDC), Targeted Response Against Distracted Driving (TRADD), Graffiti Response Program (GRP), and Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education (NOPE). The Field Training Section is responsible for training all certified law enforcement deputies and agency academy cadets and overseeing the Reserve Deputy Unit. Captain Leiner also functions as the agency liaison for the 10 south county contract cities: Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs, Belleair Shore, Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Seminole, South Pasadena, and St. Pete Beach.
