Florida Association of Police Explorers
What: The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 participated in 2019 Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition.
When: The competition took place from June 16, 2019 to June 22, 2019.
Where: The 2019 Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition was held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Why/How: The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 participated in scenario competitions against 31 other law enforcement explorer posts from across the state of Florida. Post #900 ranked 8th place overall.
The state scenario team comprised of Explorer Sergeant Ashley Petitt, Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick, Explorer Austin Beall and Explorer Mitchell Bonsall. The team competed in a series of seven scenarios. The team placed 4th in the active attacker event and in the top 10 overall.
Four Explorers also participated in the firearms competition to include individual and team shooting and steel target shooting.
Individual shooting trophies were awarded to:
Explorer Mitchell Bonsall for Top Shooter Overall with over 70 competitors
Explorer Michael Costello for 1st Place in the Tyro Division
Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick for 3rd Place in the Sharp Shooter Division
Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick for 3rd Place in the Steel Target shoot
Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick was also recognized as one of the Range Master’s Top 10 Shooters for the year.
The shooting team was awarded 2nd place overall and was comprised of Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick, Explorer Michael Costello, Explorer Mitchell Bonsall, and Explorer Myranda Smith.
Post #900 members also participated in the optional events to include the Honor Guard competition and Drill Team competition.
The Honor Guard team tied for 1st place with the tie-breaker placing them in 2nd place overall. The team members included Explorer Lieutenant Sandra Mondragon, Explorer Sergeant Ashley Petitt, Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick, and Explorer Michael Costello.
The Drill team came in 3rd Place and members included Explorer Lieutenant Sandra Mondragon, Explorer Sergeant Ashley Petitt, Explorer Sergeant Justin Musick, Explorer Michael Costello, Explorer Emily Hernandez Dominguez, and Explorer Myranda Smith.
We are very proud of the efforts and accomplishments of Explorer Post 900. During this competition, they prepared and performed as a law enforcement team. Their success was a credit to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, and the countless agency members that helped to support and encourage them. Congratulations Explorer Post 900!
