Why/How:
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies arrested a man during a home football game after he threatened a Seminole High School teacher with a firearm.

According to deputies, a group of Seminole High School students were gathered in the parking lot during the home football game when they were confronted by a male subject who was later identified as 28-year-old, Matthew Caulfield.

Deputies say that Caulfield was exchanging words with and provoking the students. Seminole High School teacher, Joshua Walker, who was nearby overheard the argument and confronted Caulfield.

Witnesses say that Caulfield threatened Walker, telling him he would shoot him and displayed a handgun that was tucked in his pants.

School Resource Deputies who were already at the school working the football game responded immediately and took Caulfield into custody. Caulfield was found to be in possession of a .40 caliber handgun.

Deputies say that Caulfield was not known to the victim or the students, however; it appears that alcohol may have been a factor.

Caulfield was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

Caulfield was charged with Aggravated Assault on a School Board Employee, Possession of a Firearm at a School Sponsored Event, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and Trespass On School Grounds.

The investigation continues.
