What:
A Pinellas Sheriff’s deputy rendered aide to a woman choking at a local restaurant, likely saving her life.   

When:
The incident occurred at about 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.

Where:
The incident occurred at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) located at 30200 US 19 N in Clearwater.

Why/How:
According to deputies, Deputy David Brenn and another deputy were finishing their meal break at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) located at 30200 US 19 N in Clearwater when he noticed a woman wheezing at the table next to them.

The victim, Brianna Torres, was in obvious distress and was actively attempting to dislodge something from her throat. 

Deputy Brenn acted quickly and asked the woman if she was choking and she nodded her head in the affirmative.  Deputy Brenn immediately radioed for assistance from paramedics and asked Torres if he could attempt the Heimlich maneuver and she again nodded yes.  On his third thrust Deputy Brenn successfully dislodged a piece of steak from the victim’s throat allowing her to breathe normally.

Paramedics responded and evaluated the victim who stated she was uninjured.
