When:
Todd Brown turned himself in to Detectives on January 9, 2015 at 10:40AM.

How/Why:
On December 10, 2014, the Economic Crimes Unit was made aware of an employee theft involving Detention Deputy Todd Brown. According to investigators, he contacted Fiscal Affairs after his paycheck was not posted via direct deposit into his bank account on two separate occasions. These two Direct Deposits involved the pay period of November 8, 2013 and November 22, 2013.  Payroll issued a paper check to Brown on both occasions.

Fiscal Affairs later noticed an in-balance in the Sheriff’s Office account and discovered Brown being issued two checks for both pay periods. Brown never notified Fiscal Affairs the money had correctly posted to his account as scheduled and cashed the paper checks.

An internal affairs investigation was initiated as a result of the incident. Brown has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the completion of the investigation. The case was also investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit, who determined probable cause for arrest. Brown turned himself in to the Pinellas County Jail at 10:40 a.m. on January 9, 2015 on charges of Grand Theft.

Brown is currently in the booking process; photo will be available once the process is complete.
