Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a daycare owner for child abuse, after the child was found with multiple bruises.

Detectives began their investigation on October 3, 2017, after the 2-year-old victim’s mother noticed three large red marks on the victim’s left and right thighs. The mother reported that she had picked the victim up from daycare at “Itsy Bitsy Kids World”, and after returning home, she noticed the red marks. The mother attempted to ask for information from the daycare and was only told that the victim "fell." The mother was not provided any further explanation.

According to detectives, the victim was in the care of 59-year-old Colleen Williams Days, at the time of the incident on October 3, 2017.

Detectives learned from medical staff that the victim suffered from two large bruises on his right thigh and three large bruises on his left thigh, and the findings were positive for child abuse. During the course of the investigation, the detectives were told that Days often strikes children with her hand or a shoe for punishment.

On October 27, 2017, detectives interviewed Days at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office located at 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Days admitted to detectives that she struck the victim several times with his own shoes, causing the injuries to both his legs. Days stated she struck the child because he would not put his shoes on when asked.

Detectives arrested Days and charged her with one count of Child Abuse.

The daycare has been suspended by the Child Care Licensing Board pending an investigation.

Days was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
