The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office offers unpaid internships to undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking college credit towards law enforcement-related majors, including, but not limited to: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Corrections, Forensic Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Public Safety Administration, and Emergency Management. Our internship program provides students with a complete overview of agency operations, experience in a specific area of agency operations, or a combination of both based on their program requirements. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Internship Program is available throughout the year in conjunction with academic semesters in the spring, summer, and fall. We recommend that students submit applications 10-12 weeks prior to the semester they wish to begin the internship to allow ample time to complete the application process. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age Must live or work in Pinellas County Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program pursuing a law enforcement related major and eligible for college credits for the internship Must be willing to undergo a background check and pass a polygraph test How to Apply Submit the completed Internship Application in its entirety to Community Programs. Interns who qualify will be subject to an extensive background check and screening process, including a polygraph examination. The background process can require up to two months time, so keep this in mind relative to your college schedule. Once your application is accepted, you will be required to attend an orientation meeting prior to start of your semester.
