Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/ Homicide Unit are investigating a murder after a man shot and killed an employee of a bar in Oldsmar.

According to detectives, at about 1:07 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, deputies responded to Hennessy’s Bar and Grill located at 127 Forest Lakes Boulevard in Oldsmar, regarding a report of an armed person.

When deputies arrived, they found an employee, 33-year-old David Brown, inside the business suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding deputies located the suspect, 43-year-old Brian Mytych, who was still inside the business. Mytych admitted to deputies that he shot the victim. Deputies also located a .45 caliber handgun inside the business.

Mytych was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives say that deputies were previously called to Hennessy’s on Feburary 6, 2017, after Mytych and Brown were involved in a physical altercation at the business. Mytych was issued a trespass warning from the business and he was told to leave the property but he refused. Mytych was intoxicated and he became disorderly, so deputies arrested Mytych for disorderly intoxication.

Witnesses say that Mytych returned to the bar during the early morning hours on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Employees at the business told Mytych to leave the property because of the trespass warning he was issued on February 6, 2017.

Mytych left the property and returned to the business a short time later. Witnesses say that Mytych re-entered the business and shot Brown multiple times with a handgun. Following the shooting, Mytych told the patrons in the bar to leave, and then he called 911 and reported the shooting.

Detectives interviewed Mytych at the North District Station located at 737 Louden Avenue. Mytych was subsequently arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

Mytych was charged with one count of 1st Degree Murder.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
