Where:

The shooting occurred on the street near the intersection of Oliver Street and Hamlin Boulevard in unincorporated Largo.

When:
Deputies were initially called to the suspect’s residence at about 9 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016.

Deputies were called back to the suspect’s residence when the shooting occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016.

Why/How:
At about 9 p.m. on December 12, 2016, deputies were called to a residence located at 14530 Oliver Street to check the welfare of, 25-year-old Logan Ullrich. Logan’s girlfriend, who lived out of state, was worried that Logan was expressing suicidal thoughts, concerned that Logan may have a weapon and might hurt himself.

Deputies met with Logan and his mother and father, Cathrine and Terry Ullrich at the residence. Through the course of their investigation, deputies determined that Logan did not meet the Baker Act criteria, and deputies left the residence.

At about 10:20 p.m., Logan’s father Terry called deputies back to the scene from the neighbor’s residence informing deputies that Logan’s behavior had gotten worse. When deputies arrived, they staged outside the residence near the intersection of Oliver Street and Hamlin Boulevard.

Deputies established telephone contact with Logan and his mother Cathrine. While speaking with Cathrine on the phone, deputies overheard Logan trying to arm himself. Logan exited the residence armed with a 30-06 rife, and ran westbound on Oliver Street towards deputies at Hamlin Boulevard.

Detectives say that deputies gave Logan verbal commands to drop the rifle but Logan refused and continued towards the deputies. Logan turned and leveled the rife towards the deputies when Sergeant Paul Langlais and Deputy Benjamin Fisher fired multiple shots striking Logan once in the leg.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Logan to Bayfront Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

No deputies were injured.

The investigation continues.
