What:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating an apparent attempted murder-suicide shooting involving a husband and wife in unincorporated Tarpon Springs.

When:
Deputies received the call at about 10:13 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016.

Where:
The incident occurred at a residence located at 2550 Richards Road, in unincorporated Tarpon Springs.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating an apparent attempted murder-suicide shooting involving a husband and wife in unincorporated Tarpon Springs.

Deputies responded to the residence at 2550 Richards Road, at 10:13 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016. A family member contacted the Sheriff’s Office after finding the couple in their home.

Detectives say that 86-year-old Edith Kamp, was found in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head. Her husband, 92-year-old Robert Kamp, was found in the bathroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Edith to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with life-threatening injuries. Robert was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe Robert shot his wife, and then took his own life. A suicide note was found inside the home.  

Edith and Robert were both suffering from long term medical illnesses and were being cared for by family and friends.

Next of kin has been notified.

Edith remains at the hospital in serious condition.
