A detention deputy was terminated for driving under the influence following a two vehicle crash in St. Petersburg.

According to the Administrative Investigation Division, at about 4:22 p.m. on February, 11, 2019, off-duty detention deputy, Kimberly Peck, was operating her personal vehicle northbound on 71^st Street, when she attempted to make an eastbound turn onto 54^th Avenue North, in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Investigators say Peck failed to successfully negotiate the right turn and swung too wide striking another vehicle facing westbound at the intersection.

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded and investigated the crash.

Peck and the driver of the second vehicle were both transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say Peck showed obvious indicators of impairment. Evidence collected through the investigation determined Peck was under the influence of alcoholic beverages and was over the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Peck’s employment was terminated on February 12, 2019, which is consistent with Sheriff’s Office policy.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s criminal DUI investigation is still open.

Peck was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on January 28, 2002. She worked as a detention deputy and was assigned to the Pinellas County Jail.
