What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in Oldsmar. An unknown second vehicle involved left the scene.

When:
The crash occurred at about 10:24 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Tampa Road and St Petersburg Drive in Oldsmar.

Why/How:
According to investigators, 55-year-old Mark Coomes was driving his 2010 Toyota Four Runner, west bound in the curb lane of Tampa Road approaching St Petersburg Drive, with a green traffic light.

Investigators say a pedestrian 64-year-old Eric Feinstein was walking in an unknown direction, crossing the intersection of Tampa Road and St Petersburg Drive, (unknown if in the crosswalk) when he was struck  by Coomes’s Toyota Four Runner in the intersection, near the right curb lane of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive.

Deputies say Coomes, stated he did not see Feinstein and appeared unable to take evasive action to avoid the collision.

Investigators say after Feinstein was struck by Coome’s Toyota Four Runner, Feinstein was immediately struck again by another unknown vehicle who continued traveling west on Tampa Road. Deputies are investigating who the identity of the second driver of the second vehicle is. No description of the second vehicle is available at this time.  It is also unknown if the impact from Coomes’s Toyota Four Runner caused the fatal injury to Feinstein.

Paramedics immediately responded to the scene and pronounced Feinstein deceased.

Investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the first crash involving Coomes.

Deputies are attempting to locate and identify the driver of the second vehicle who struck Feinstein.

Next of kin has been notified.
