The Alternative Sentencing Unit supervises pre-arrest, pre-trial and sentenced offenders who must abide by certain court ordered restrictions while released in the community. These conditions may range from weekly communication to more intensive levels of supervision such as random drug screenings or home confinement.  In some instances, a person may be required to wear a GPS and/or an alcohol monitoring device to ensure compliance with their conditional release. 

• Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion (APAD): Person who commits certain eligible misdemeanor offenses and meets the eligibility criteria may be allowed to complete community service at various non-profit agencies in lieu of a criminal charge. Must accept responsibility for their actions, complete community service hours, pay any victim restitution and attend educational classes relevant to the offense. 

• Continuous Alcohol Monitoring (CAM):  Offenders are court ordered to wear an alcohol monitor to ensure compliance with their zero alcohol condition. A portable “Remote Breath” device is available for offenders who are unable to wear a device due to any medical or other constraints.

• Day Reporting: A work release program allowing an offender to serve their jail sentence by completing community service instead of being incarcerated.  Non-violent county misdemeanants perform work at various non-profit agencies in Pinellas County earning a day off their sentence for every eight (8) hours worked.

• GPS Monitoring: Offenders are outfitted with a GPS ankle bracelet device to monitor compliance with court ordered conditions (i.e. inclusion, exclusion, curfew, travel, etc.).  Certain qualifying offenders may be eligible to serve their jail sentence on a work release program monitored with a GPS device instead of being incarcerated in the jail.

• Supervised Release on Recognizance (SROR): This program is responsible for the investigation & supervision of pretrial defendants charged with certain non-violent felony crimes or misdemeanor domestic violence charges. Offenders can be ordered to this program by a judge or referred by any person.  Offenders on this program will be required to maintain weekly contact and abide by all court ordered conditions.
• Supervised Bond: This program is responsible for the supervision of pretrial defendants who are released with a secured monetary condition and additional court imposed conditions supervised by the Sheriff’s Office pending trial (i.e. GPS monitoring, continuous alcohol monitoring, and/or drug testing.) Offenders on this program are required to abide by all court ordered conditions imposed by a Judge.
