**ORIGINAL RELEASE**

PINELLAS COUNTY - Deputies, in conjunction with several partner agencies, will join this weekend to conduct a DUI Wolf Pack operation in Pinellas County.

The participating agencies include:

Florida Highway Patrol, Gulfport Police Department, Treasure Island Police Department, Largo Police Department, Belleair Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department, Clearwater Police Department, and the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

They will maintain a proactive profile over the weekend on the highly traveled roadways of Pinellas County.

The operation will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, and will continue until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

The operation is part of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s on-going commitment to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving. The goal of the Wolf Pack is to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.

This DUI Wolf Pack is dedicated to the memory of Stephen Edward Toner

On December 11, 2010, Stephen Edward Toner passed away after being struck by an impaired driver. Toner was walking his Springer Spaniel in Sorrento, Florida, when a vehicle driven by Stephen Pegues exited the roadway, striking Toner and his beloved dog, leaving them to succumb to their injuries. Witnesses were able to obtain a vehicle tag on the truck driven by Pegues. Pegues fled the scene, later stating he was impaired and celebrating his birthday during a recorded jail phone call.

Toner was an investigator for the Department of Business and Professional Regulations with the Division of Pari-Mutual Wagering and a loving father to two sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, and a brother.
