Barrier Island Access

Effective immediately on Thursday, September 29, 2022, access to the barrier islands will be open to the public, with or without a re-entry pass.

***UPDATE*** Effective immediately, access to the barrier islands has been restored for those with a Barrier Island re-entry permit. Evacuation order is still in effect. Access will be reassessed at midday today.

Original release:

PINELLAS COUNTY – Effective Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. (midnight tonight), Pinellas deputies are closing access to the barrier islands from Tierra Verde to the Dunedin Causeway. Residents can still evacuate.

Whether residents have a re-entry pass or not, they will not be permitted to re-enter the barrier islands until after the storm passes and law enforcement has determined it is safe to re-open.

Updates will be provided when there are changes to the barrier island access.
