Major Paul Carey began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Tarpon Springs Police Department in 1997, and joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 2003. During his tenure with the sheriff’s office Major Carey has served as a patrol deputy, field training officer, environmental lands deputy, STAR Team deputy, Strategic Enforcement Section deputy and corporal, child protection investigation sergeant, administrative investigations sergeant, patrol lieutenant, Violent Crimes Task Force unit commander, Child Protection Investigation Division commander, Narcotics Division commander, and commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. Major Carey earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Petersburg College and is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, Senior Leadership Program.

As commander of the Support and Health Services Bureau, Major Carey oversees the Support Services Division, the Custody Management Division, and the Medical Division.
