DISCOVERY DAY Children between ages 8 and 13 spend a Saturday morning at the Sheriff’s Administration Building rotating through four hands-on learning stations. Participants hit the ground running on a modified version of our Physical Abilities Test (PAT) course, climb behind the wheel of a pedal car to navigate our distracted driving course, dust for fingerprints with our forensic science technicians, and explore special operations equipment that are deployed in the community by land, air, and sea. SHERIFF’S TEEN CITIZENS ACADEMY Teens ages 14 to 18 with an interest in law enforcement spend three consecutive Saturday mornings behind the scenes at the PCSO. Participants meet the sheriff, step into our use-of-force simulator, explore our forensic science lab, shoot firearms alongside our training staff, and much more. SHERIFF’S CITIZENS ACADEMY Adults that live or work in Pinellas County receive an unparalleled backstage pass to the PCSO through our flagship community education program. On Tuesday or Thursday nights for 11 weeks, participants experience everything the agency has to offer from high-liability training on use of force, firearms, and vehicle operations to presentations on patrol, investigative, and judicial operations. By the conclusion of the program, participants see it all, from the halls of our administration building and our aircraft hangar to our forensic science labs and the regional 9-1-1 center.
