Explorer Post #900 The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program (Post #900) offers young people the opportunity to experience firsthand the challenges and rewards of a career in law enforcement or corrections including investigations, forensics, training, and more. Explorers interact with deputy sheriffs who serve as mentors and instructors, some of whom were once Explorers themselves. Post #900 Explorers are immersed in several facets of our agency’s operations and has earned national championships in several law enforcement exploring categories such as scenario-based, shooting, Honor Guard, and drill teams. To become a Post #900 Explorer, applicants must be: Between 14 and 17 years old (age 15 in 8th grade and age 18 in 12th grade okay) Enrolled in high school, home school, or virtual school A good student with regular attendance and maintain a minimum 2.0 or “C” GPA Of good moral character with no felony convictions (background check required) Able to perform physical activities regularly Able to arrange transportation to/from all meetings and training sessions (we follow the school calendar year including holidays and breaks) Able to attend all meetings (at advisor’s discretion, some exceptions may be made for school events e.g. band, sports, etc.) Paramilitary/boot camp style - The post is run with a high level of expectations for behavior, appearance, physical training and responsibility level.
