Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a suspect for Capital Sexual Battery of a Child Under 12.

When:
The crime occurred between September 2019 and January 2020. The suspect was arrested on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at approximately 7:05 a.m.

Where:
The crime happened at the suspect’s residence in St. Pete Beach.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a St. Pete Beach man for Capital Sexual Battery of a Child Under 12.

Detectives began their investigation after learning the victim had been sexually battered between September 2019 and January 2020 while the victim lived in the home of 50-year-old Alfred Mahoney. The victim reported to a family member that Mahoney sexually battered her.  

Investigators say the family member took the child to a local hospital and notified law enforcement.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives developed probable cause for Mahoney’s arrest.

Detectives located him at his residence on September 24, 2020 and took Mahoney into custody.

He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with Capital Sexual Battery of a Child Less than 12.

The investigation continues.
