Pinellas deputies are investigating the drowning of an 71-year-old man in Madeira Beach.

When:
The incident occurred at about 12:39 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

Where:
The incident occurred at the Madeira Beach Access County Park, located at 14400 Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach.

Why/How:
At about 12:39 p.m. on June 8, 2019, deputies responded to the Madeira Beach Access County Park located at 14400 Gulf Boulevard, after receiving a report of people yelling for help on the beach.

Upon arriving on-scene, deputies observed citizens carrying 71-year-old Osman Pehlivanovic, out of the water. Deputies were informed that Pehlivanovic entered the water to assist his 12-year-old grandson in the high surf, when he became unresponsive.

Sergeant Horton, and two citizens, 53-year-old Denise McCoy and 36-year-old Soraya Savage, performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on Pehlivanovic until Madeira Beach Fire Department arrived to assume medical care.

Pehlivanovic was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The 12-year-old grandson was uninjured.

The incident does not appear suspicious.

The investigation continues.
