Where:
The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 19 North, just south of Tampa Road in Palm Harbor.

Why/How:
According to investigators, Deputy Matthew Schultheis was driving his fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, northbound on U.S. Highway 19 North in the curb lane when he crashed into the rear end of a 2016 Toyota Camry being operated by 42-year-old Angela Cappiello.

The force of the impact pushed Cappiello’s Toyota into the rear of a 2005 Ford Focus being driven by 40-year-old Erin Mann.

Investigators say Cappiello and Mann were both stopped in traffic just south of Tampa Road at the time of the crash.

Cappiello was transported to Mease Countryside hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Mann was transported to Advent Health North Pinellas Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash.
