The crash occurred at about 6:33 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

Where:
The crash occurred on 54^th Avenue near the intersection of 34^th Street and 54^th Avenue North in unincorporated St Petersburg.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a deputy involved crash in unincorporated St Petersburg.

According to investigators, off duty Deputy Kristie Campion was driving in her 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser westbound on 54^th Avenue North. A 2015 Mercedes driven by 28-year-old Christine Yo was also traveling westbound on 54^th Avenue north and was slowing down just west of the intersection of 34^th Street and 54^th Avenue North. 

Investigators say Deputy Campion failed to stop and crashed into the rear of Christine’s 2015 Mercedes.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Christine to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Campion was not injured.

Investigators say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.
