Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a serious vehicle vs. bicyclist crash in Dunedin.

When:
The crash occurred at about 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

Where:
The crash occurred on Curlew Road just west of U.S. 19, Dunedin.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a serious vehicle vs. bicyclist crash in Dunedin.

According to investigators, 29 year-old Anthony Long was driving his 2013 Jeep Wrangler northbound when he attempted to exit the parking lot, located at 2375 Curlew Road, to go eastbound on Curlew Road just west of Tampa Road.

Deputies say it appears the bicyclist, 56 year-old Eduardo Lopez Jr., was traveling westbound on his bicycle on the sidewalk next to the eastbound lanes of Curlew Road. As Long was pulling out of the driveway, Lopez Jr. was stuck by the 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Deputies say Lopez Jr. went under the vehicle and sustained serious injuries to his lower left extremity and head. Long was not injured.

Deputies say Lopez Jr. and Long showed no signs of impairment.

The investigation continues.
