Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Tyrone Boulevard North and Park Street North in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a two vehicle crash involving a deputy in St. Petersburg.

According to investigators, Deputy Shawn Livernois was driving his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria marked cruiser westbound in the left turn lane of Tyrone Boulevard North, at the intersection of Park Street North.

Investigators say Deputy Livernois tried to maneuver his vehicle to assist another deputy in the area with a traffic stop on Tyrone Boulevard North, and made a U-turn at Park Street North on a red arrow traffic signal to go back eastbound. When Deputy Livernois made the U-turn, he drove into the path of 59-year-old David Lawhead, who was driving his 2004 Toyota Sienna eastbound on Tyrone Boulevard North with a green traffic light.

Lawhead was unable to stop and his Toyota crashed into the passenger side of Deputy Livernois’ cruiser.

Paramedics responded and Lawhead refused medical treatment at the scene. Deputy Livernois was transported by another deputy to a local hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say Deputy Livernois did not have his emergency lights or sirens on at the time of the crash.

Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
