Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) are investigating a two vehicle crash causing non-life threating injuries to an on duty Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant and another driver.

According to investigators, at approximately 2:17 a.m., a Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) deputy was driving his marked Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Tahoe in the area of 7th Avenue South and 9th Street South in St. Petersburg. While in the area, the deputy observed a suspicious 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by 27-year-old Timothy Jones.

The deputy pulled his cruiser behind the suspicious vehicle when the Monte Carlo stopped in the roadway along the curb. The vehicle then sped away at a high rate of speed and ran several stop signs.

The deputy notified VCTF members in the area of the suspicious vehicle. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, while driving westbound on 14th Avenue South.

Lieutenant Euler was driving his unmarked Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on 16th Street South in St. Petersburg.

Jones ran the stop sign at 14th Avenue South and 16th Street South and crashed into the driver’s side of Lieutenant Euler’s agency vehicle.

After the impact, Jones fled on foot but was taken into custody shortly after the crash.

Lieutenant Euler was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Jones was also treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. After being released, Jones was taken to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

Jones was charged with, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury, Resisting Without Violence, Reckless Driving with Injury, and Driving While License Suspended and/or Revoked.
