The female victim, who was between 4 and 5 years old at the time of the incident, is known to the suspect. Per Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1 no further details will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

The suspect was arrested on January 5, 2018 and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The crime occurred at a residence in Clearwater.

Why/How:
Detectives have arrested a man for capital sexual battery upon a minor female victim.

According to detectives, the investigation began on January 3, 2018, after the 5-year old female victim informed an adult of inappropriate sexual activity that had occurred. Detectives say in December 2017, 47-year-old Charles Kenneth Spoonemore had inappropriate sexual activity with the female victim.

Through various interviews and investigative techniques, detectives were able to confirm the victim’s allegations and that the inappropriate sexual activity occurred on more than one occasion.

Detectives reported that Spoonemore is known to the victim. The crime occurred while the victim was in the care of the suspect.

At about 1:05 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018, detectives attempted to interview Spoonemore at the Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Spoonemore denied the allegations.

Spoonemore was arrested and charged with one count of Capital Sexual Battery. He was subsequently transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

The investigation continues.
