Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a three-vehicle crash involving three Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Child Protection Investigators in Largo

According to investigators, at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Child Investigator Jana Mrkaja was driving an agency unmarked Ford Fusion east bound on Ulmerton Road in the median lane when her agency vehicle was struck on the passenger side by the Mazda changing lanes driven by 17-year old Ithiphon Lertprotsombat also traveling eastbound on Ulmerton Road.

The impact also caused the Ford Fusion to strike the Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 52-year old Jennifer Seaman who was in the left turn lane for Coral Way.

The Ford Fusion finally came to a stop in the west bound lanes of Ulmerton Road facing east bound.

The driver of the Santa Fe, Jennifer Seaman was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, Pinellas County Child Protection Investigator Jana Mrkaja and her passengers, Child Protection Investigators Michelle Curd and Tiffany Tury, also were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, Ithiphon Lertprotsombat was not injured during the crash.

It does not appear speed nor drug/alcohol impairment were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
