What:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pinellas Park Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Gulfport Police Department, is hosting the 5^th  Annual Multi-jurisdictional Police Explorer Academy.  The academy offers youth insights into how law enforcement performs their duties and how law enforcement serves the community. The Academy will provide training in areas of communications, ethics, weapons familiarization and much more. 
 

When:
Registration is currently open and taking place through July 1, 2017.

The Academy will be held during a two week period. Week 1: July 18, 19, 20, Week 2: July 25,26,27,28. Graduation: July 28, 2017

Where:
The St. Petersburg College- Allstate Center located at 3200 34^th Street S, St. Petersburg, Florida 33711

Why/How:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pinellas Park Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Gulfport Police Department, is hosting the 5th Annual Multi-jurisdictional Police Explorer Academy.

The Academy will provide training in areas of:
- Ethics
- Weapons Familiarization
- Building Searches
- Traffic Stops Training
- K-9 Demonstration
- Defensive Tactics
- Officer Survival
- Domestic Violence Investigations
-CPR
-First Aid

The Academy is open to young men and women between the ages of 14-18 years old. They must pass a background check. They must be enrolled and attending high school in fall of 2017.

Academy participants will need to be able to perform physical exercises. Hold harmless agreements and photo/media releases will be required for all participants.

Youth will need transportation to and from site for the day. Shuttles from designated locations may be available.
