The incident occurred near the intersection of Coral Ave and Gulf Boulevard, in Redington Shores.

Why/How:

Deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau have arrested a Sheriff’s Office- Department of Detention and Corrections corporal for DUI.

At about 1:45 a.m., on Monday, February 20, 2017, deputies were conducting traffic enforcement on Gulf Boulevard in North Redington Beach. Deputies reported they observed a 2013 white Chevrolet sport utility vehicle traveling northbound on Gulf Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Deputies conducted a traffic stop at Coral Avenue and Gulf Boulevard for speeding, 67 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour speed zone.

Deputies made contact with the driver, 35-year-old Jo Anna Barker, who identified herself as an off-duty Sheriff’s Office detention corporal.

Deputies say that Barker showed signs of impairment and a breath sample indicated she had a BAC of .217/.214.

Barker was arrested and charged with one count of Driving under the Influence. She was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

Barker was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, on October 17, 2011. She worked as a detention corporal in the Department of Detention and Corrections. Her employment was terminated following the arrest.
