What:
Deputies arrest a 16-year-old male after he rams a deputy’s cruiser with a stolen vehicle in St. Petersburg.

When:
The incident began at about 3 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016.

Where:
Deputies initially sighted the stolen vehicle near 38th Avenue and 68th Street, in St. Petersburg.

The suspect rammed the deputy’s cruiser near the intersection of 78th Lane North and 46th Avenue North, in St. Petersburg.

The suspect was apprehended at 4040 66th Street, in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
According to deputies, a 2016 Honda Accord was observed by deputies driving westbound on 38th Avenue North near 68th Street North, in St. Petersburg. An inquiry on the vehicle tag indicated that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Pasco County.

Deputies did not pursue the Honda but maintained visual contact with the vehicle.  As deputies were monitoring the Honda, the vehicle began driving erratically and turned northbound onto 72nd Street North, into a residential neighborhood where deputies lost visual contact with the vehicle.

Deputies later spotted the same Honda Accord traveling northbound on 78th Lane North. Deputies say the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving back and forth in the roadway. When the Honda approached 46th Avenue North, deputies initiated a preemptive Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.) temporarily stopping and disabling the vehicle.

Deputies say that the driver and only occupant of the Honda Accord, 16-year-old Jatez Boyd, repeatedly rammed the front end of the deputy’s cruiser. Boyd used the Honda to push the deputy’s cruiser backwards towards the deputy standing outside his cruiser, challenging Boyd at gunpoint. The impact caused damage to both vehicles and Boyd fled the scene eastbound on 46th Avenue North.

Deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit and followed the Honda eastbound on 46th Avenue North to 66th Street North. The Honda made a southbound turn onto 66th Street North and continued southbound towards 40th Avenue North. Deputies initiated a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.) on the Honda, causing Boyd to lose control of the vehicle, and crash into two unoccupied parked vehicles at 3901 66th Street North.

Boyd exited the disabled Honda and fled from the scene on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, deputies apprehended Boyd without further incident.

Boyd was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital for minor injuries. No deputies were injured.

Boyd was charged with one count of Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, one count of Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle, one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, one count of Resisting Officer with Violence, one count of Resisting Officer without Violence, one count of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage, one count of No Valid Driver’s License, and one count of Possession of Marijuana.

Boyd was also listed as a Missing Juvenile/ Runaway.

Boyd was transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.

The investigation continues.
