What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a detective involved vehicle vs. bicycle crash. The bicyclist sustained minor injuries.

When:
The crash occurred at about 7:34 a.m. on April 7, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at the eastbound off-ramp for I275 and 31st Street South in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
According to investigators the undercover detective was traveling on the eastbound off-ramp for I275 at 31st Street South. Deputies say that as the undercover detective attempted to make a left turn to go north onto 31st Street South, he did not see the bicyclist, who was heading south on 31st Street in the bicycle lane, due to another vehicle blocking his view. As the detective began to make the left turn he struck the bicyclist with the driver side front of his unmarked SUV, knocking her to the ground.

The bicyclist identified, as 33-year-old Brianna Northcutt of St. Petersburg, was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with minor bruises and abrasions.

The investigation continues.
