What:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office participated in and has announced the results of the Florida Sheriffs Task Force 2016 “Operation Predator”. The operation was a strategic initiative that verified current locations and criminal backgrounds of the 46,000 permanent sexual predator residents in the state.

During the operation deputies verified information of Florida’s sexual predator and offenders, including their addresses, registration violations, number of related warrants served through arrests and number of ancillary arrests made through this enforcement operation.

When:
“Operation Predator” was conducted over a two week period that took place in February and March of 2016.

Where:
The operation was conducted county wide in Pinellas.

A total of 39 Sheriffs Offices across the state participated in the operation.

Why/How:
The Florida Sheriff’s Task Force, chaired by Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, has released the results of “Operation Predator”.

The results for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are as follows:

  • 148 total sexual predator address verification
  • 1250 total sexual offender address verifications
  • 1 total sexual predators arrested/charged for registration violations
  • 0 total sexual offenders arrested/charged for registration violations
  • 5 total related warrants served through arrests
  • 0 total ancillary arrests made through this operation enforcement

The FSA Operation Totals (39 Florida Sheriff’s Offices) are as follows:

  • 1,432 total sexual predator address verifications
  •  9,407 total sexual offender address verifications
  • 19 total sexual predators arrested/charged for registration violation
  • 115 total sexual offenders arrested/charged for registration violations
  • 63 total related warrants served through arrests
  • 67 total ancillary arrests made through this operation enforcement

“Operation Predator allows our Sheriffs Offices to better predict dangers that could potentially harm our children and community members,” said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri and Chair of FSA’s Task Force. “The data found informs the public of possible threats and helps better prepare our task force to defend Florida residents.”

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida’s more than 46,000 permanent sexual predator residents are made up of 36,452 resident offenders, 9,940 resident predators and 251 juvenile sexual offenders.

Operation Predator contributes to two of the FSA business operations goals: to protect Florida’s youth and to promote the activities of Sheriffs.  The results of this task force operation have led to updated information being added to FDLE’s sexual offender and predator directory.  The directory is located at www.offender.fdle.state.fl.us.
