What:
Deputies assigned to the Violent Offenders Warrants Unit (VOWU), along with various other Sheriff’s Office components; and several law enforcement agencies have arrested 60 wanted suspects in “Operation Street Sweep.”

“Operation Street Sweep” targeted 665 individuals with outstanding felony warrants in south Pinellas County.

When:
The operation ran from March 3, 2016 and ended on March 16, 2016.

Where:
The operation was conducted in south Pinellas County.

Why/How:
In a continuing effort to lower the number of outstanding warrants in Pinellas County, the Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Warrants Unit along with various other agency components; and jointly with the Gulfport Police Department, Indian Shores Police Department, Kenneth City Police Department, Largo Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department, St. Petersburg  Police Department, Treasure Island Police Department, FDOC, FDLE, FBI, and the United States Marshal Service -conducted a sweep targeting 665 individuals with felony warrants.

During the operation, which was conducted between March 3, 2016 and March 16, 2016, law enforcement teams fanned out across 19 zones in South Pinellas and arrested a total of 60 suspects on approximately 71 warrant charges to include felony battery, aggravated assault, battery on elderly person, drug trafficking, drug possession, grand theft motor vehicle, welfare fraud, unemployment compensation fraud, food stamp fraud, etc.

During the operation, two additional suspects were arrested for armed burglary, auto theft, felon in possession of firearm, possession of cocaine, possession of morphine, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

The Sheriff’s Office will continue to pursue arrests of felony warrant suspects in the days and weeks to come.
