Why/How:
Purchasing Agent Karen Main, of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Support Services Bureau Purchasing Division, has been awarded the Manager of the Year Award by the Tampa Bay Area Chapter of National Institute for Government Procurement.

Karen Main currently manages the Purchasing Division for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and leads a staff of 14 members that administers buying, inventory and supply, imprinting and delivery for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2015, members of the Purchasing Division received the agency Unit Award for their outstanding group effort in the year-long project to implement new Patrol uniforms. Karen led the division to research, test, purchase, and distribute new uniforms for 1,000 staff members. She was responsible for significant request for proposals (RFP) that included agency-wide multi-function printers, enterprise resource planning system, banking services, inmate healthcare electronic medical records, inmate commissary, and a new fitness center for Sheriff’s Office staff.

Karen has also been involved in the planning and design process for a new purchasing warehouse and was tasked with expanding the Purchasing Division’s imprinting services that directly increased the capabilities and productivity for production of agency uniforms.

Karen has been a member of the TBA Chapter since 1991. Nominations for the TBA Chapter Manager of the Year Award were submitted in February 2016. Karen was presented with the award on March 4, 2016.
