What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a five vehicle crash that occurred in Largo. This was a deputy involved crash. 

Two people, including the undercover detective, were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

One driver was cited for careless driving.

When:
The crash occurred at about 3:49 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at 8080 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Why/How:
According to investigators, 64-year-old John Flynn was traveling east on Ulmerton Road in his Toyota Tundra. Deputies say Flynn changed lanes from the curb lane to the median lane and struck the unmarked deputy vehicle driven by a Sheriff’s Office undercover detective. The impact pushed the detective’s vehicle into the Chevy Malibu being driven by 69-year old Francis Swindle, who was pushed into the PT Cruiser being driven by 77-year-old Carol Ehrenkranz, who in turn was pushed into the Toyota Corolla driven by 54-year-old Bang Tam Tran.

The detective was transported to Bardmoor Hospital by another agency member for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Swindle’s passenger, 89-year-old Fred McIntosh, was transported by ambulance to Largo Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Flynn was cited for careless driving.

The investigation continues.
