Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit have advised that missing woman Roberta Rene Cable’s former roommate, Jerry Gaston, has died.

Detectives say Gaston passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.

Investigators say Gaston died at Bay Pines VA Hospital.

According to investigators, 64-year-old Jerry Gaston passed away due to health related issues on January 20, 2016 at Bay Pines VA Hospital.

Roberta Rene Cable went missing on December 14, 2013 after leaving her home located at 1700 Owen Drive in Clearwater. Detectives say Cable shared residence with Gaston at the Owen Drive address at the time of her disappearance.

Detectives say that over the course of this investigation, Gaston  made several inconsistent statements and eventually refused to talk to investigators. He was ultimately named a suspect in this case.

On July 28, 2015 detectives executed a search warrant at Gaston’s residence, where they recovered evidence related to the case.

At that time investigators disclosed they believed Gaston may have driven his white Ford F150 truck to an undisclosed off-road location between the dates of December 14th, 2013 and December 15th, 2013; and further revealed  they believed the vehicle to be connected to her disappearance.

To this day Cable’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Detectives continue to investigate her disappearance.

Anyone with information that would help shed additional light on this case is urged to call Corporal Jeff Capra of the Robbery/Homicide Unit at (727) 582-6200; or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS or www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org.
