The crash occurred at approximately 03:35 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. 

How/Why: 
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Gulfport.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2004 Infiniti FX35 was traveling westbound on 18^th Avenue South, approaching 49^th Street South, at approximately 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

The driver, traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed over 49^th Street, failing to stop at the stop sign. The driver then drove over the sidewalk onto a grassy area on the west side of 49^th Street, alongside Tangerine Avenue.

The vehicle continued through the grass before striking a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn and come to final rest on the passenger side.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Shawn Lynch was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounce deceased at the scene.

Tangerine Avenue between 49^th Street South and 51^st Street South remains closed at this time.

The investigation continues.
