Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team have arrested a suspect who they say was responsible for a deputy involved crash on August 26, 2015, in Belleair Beach.

According to investigators, the suspect 33-year-old Mark Hindes was driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe the wrong way, westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Belleair Causeway, when he crashed into Corporal Kannika Nimithkoune who was in her marked cruiser.

After striking the deputies cruiser, the Chevy Tahoe struck the concrete barrier and struck a Ford van. The Ford van then struck a Dodge truck that was traveling eastbound on the causeway.

Corporal Nimithkoune was not injured; however, Hindes and three others were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Toxicology reports indicated that Mark Hindes was under the influence of several controlled substances at the time of the crash to include Cocaine, Marijuana, Carisoprodol, Diazepam, and Nordiazepam.

Hindes was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
