What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have arrested a driver for DUI after he caused a two vehicle crash in Oldsmar.   

When:
The crash occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015.    

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Tampa Road and East Lake Woodlands Parkway in Oldsmar.   

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have arrested a driver for DUI after he caused a two vehicle crash in Oldsmar.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Amanda Nicholls was traveling westbound on Tampa Road in a 2003 Acura, when she entered the intersection of East Lake Woodlands Parkway with a green light.

38-year-old John Ryan was traveling eastbound on Tampa Road in a 2009 Mazda 6, attempting to make a left turn onto East Lake Woodlands Parkway. Ryan failed to yield and turned if front of Nicholls, causing the crash.

Nicholls was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center for serious non-life threatening injuries. Ryan was not injured.

During the course of the investigation, Ryan showed signs of impairment. Ryan was subsequently arrested for DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, and DUI with Property Damage. He was also issued a citation for turning left in front of oncoming traffic.  

The investigation continues.
