Tarpon Springs Police Department

What:
Detectives from the Tarpon Springs Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted “Operation Room Service” a multi-jurisdictional street level narcotics investigation.  

When:
“Operation Room Service” ran from Tuesday, June 30, 2015 through Friday August, 14, 2015.

Where:
The operation targeted the area in and around the Tarpon Inn, 110 W. Tarpon Ave, in Tarpon Springs, and the Sun Bay Motel, 57 W. Tarpon Ave, in Tarpon Springs.

Why/How:
On June 30, 2015 a multi-jurisdictional operation between the Tarpons Springs Police Department  and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division was initiated. The purpose of the operation was to specifically target narcotics sales in and around the Tarpon Inn and the Sun Bay Motel which are both located in Tarpon Springs.

During this collaborative operation, detectives purchased drugs from 21 different suspects to include Jareem Roach. Jareem Roach was a witness in the tragic shooting death of Tarpon Springs Police Officer Charles Kondek on December 21, 2014.  

As a result of this operation, a total of 84 criminal charges were established. The majority of the charges included narcotics sales involving crack cocaine, although some of the other charges included Sale of Methamphetamine, Sale of Oxycodone, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Tarpon Springs Police Chief Robert Kochen and Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced the results of the operation at a joint press conference that was held at the Tarpon Springs Police Department on August 14, 2015. Chief Kochen described the narcotics issues at the local motels as a “Charlotte’s Web of drug dealing thugs, all interconnected”. He said that Operation Room Service was a “very successful operation” and good partnership with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

14 of the 21 suspects were arrested as of Friday August 14, 2015. They are listed below with their charges. The remaining 7 suspects are still being sought by detectives.
