Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a deputy involved crash in unincorporated Clearwater.

According to investigators, at approximately 2:18 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 Deputy Jane Hanna was driving a marked Chevy Impala and was stopped at a red traffic light in the area of Ulmerton Road and 34th Street. The driver of a 2013 Goodwill delivery box truck was stopped behind her at the light.

As the light turned green, the driver of the box truck began to accelerate, prior to Deputy Hanna proceeding through the light, causing the box truck to hit the rear of the deputy’s cruiser.

Deputy Hanna was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It does not appear speed nor drug/alcohol impairment were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
