Unsolved Case:
Marco Waters (Cold Case Murder Victim)
DOB: 06/06/1977
Waters was murdered on February 26, 2001.

What:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Springtime Club of Clearwater to increase awareness of the 2001 cold case homicide of Marco Waters and to requests the public’s assistance to help solve this case.

When:
The announcement was made during a news conference held at 10:00 a.m. on June 19, 2015.

Where:
The news conference was held at the Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Why/How:
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri was joined by representatives of the Springtime Club and members of Marco Waters’ family at a news conference held on June 19, 2015. The purpose of the conference was to bring renewed attention to the 14-year-old unsolved homicide of Marco Waters and to generate information that would help to solve the case. 

Synopsis of Case:

According to investigators, at approximately 9:55 p.m. on February 26^th, 2001, 23-year-old Marco Waters was sitting with his girlfriend in front of his sister’s apartment located at 5401 Colfax Street, Apartment 2 in Clearwater.

Detectives say two black males walked back and forth in front of the residence several times and then approached. Waters girlfriend was able to get inside the home as the two suspects robbed Waters at gunpoint.

Waters became engaged in a struggle with the two suspects. The suspects took the victim’s wallet containing a large sum of money. As the suspects fled, Waters yelled out to them and one of the suspects turned around and shot him.

Waters was transported to Largo Medical Center and pronounced deceased a short time later.

Detectives say Waters’ sister and girlfriend described the suspects as black males in their early twenties. The two had their faces covered.

“We are confident that someone out there has information that would help solve this crime,” said Sheriff Gualtieri. “We are hopeful that this campaign conducted in partnership with the Springtime Club, will prompt the community to begin a dialogue and to come forward with any  information they may have, no matter how insignificant it may seem, and help us bring closure to the Waters’ children and other family members.”

In order to further the appeal for the public's help, the Springtime Club will host a candlelight vigil from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on June 19th  at the Highpoint Family Center located at 5812 150th Avenue North in Clearwater.
