Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a deputy involved vehicle vs bicycle crash. The bicyclist sustained non-life threatening injuries.

When:
Deputies responded to the crash at about 2:00 a.m. on May 30, 2015.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of 54th Avenue North and 28th Street North in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
According to investigators, Corporal Kannika Nimithkoune was on duty driving her marked cruiser at a normal speed westbound on the curb lane of 54th Avenue North. Doss Wayne Justin Wilson was riding his bicycle northbound on 28th Street North on the west side of the road.

Deputies say Corporal Nimithkoune had a green light. She struck Wilson in the crosswalk as he crossed 54th Avenue.

Wilson was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Corporal Nimithkoune was not injured.

Deputies say alcohol on the part of the bicyclist appears to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.
