What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a deputy involved crash that occurred in Palm Harbor.

When:
The crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on May 12, 2015.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Alternate 19 and Alderman Road.

Why/How:
According to investigators, Deputy Fick was traveling southbound on Alternate 19. He was stopped in the center of the intersection to make a left turn onto Alderman Road.

Deputies say the light tuned yellow. Deputy Fick attempted to clear the intersection. He did not see any traffic. As he turned he was struck by the Toyota driven by 39-year-old Maria Sarantis which was traveling northbound on Alternate 19. The deputy cruiser was struck in the center passenger side.

Deputy Fick was transported to the hospital. He was determined to have no injuries.

Sarantis sustained minor abrasions and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
