What:
Deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Unit will take time out to help deliver ham dinners to families in need.

Where:
Deputies will meet at the loading dock behind the Publix at 12022 Indian Rocks Road in Largo and then will be making deliveries to dozens of families in the area.

When:
Deputies will meet and begin loading meals at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. 

How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Community Policing Unit will be loading Sheriff’s Office vehicles with ham dinners destined for dozens of families in need. The project is an annual event which partners the Sheriff’s Office, the Indian Rocks Beach Rotary Club, Calvary Episcopal Church, Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue and Publix for the purpose of reaching out and helping families who might not otherwise be able to afford a traditional meal this  Holiday.

Deputies with the Community Policing Unit have identified the families in need through their daily work in the community.

Publix is providing the meals at a discounted rate. The meal includes a fully cooked Publix Spiral Baked Brown Sugar Glazed Ham, 2 cans of Green beans, 2 Cans of Corn, 2 packages of Simply Mashed Potatoes, 1 package of Gravy Mix, 1 Can of slices Pineapple, Gallon of Unsweetened Iced tea, Apple Juice, Loaf of white sliced bread, Peanut butter, Grape Jelly, 1 16 oz bag of Navy Beans, 1 box of Macaroni and Cheese, 1 Pumpkin pie from Publix Bakery, 1 box of Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes and
Candy Canes. 

The various organizations donated the money raised to help with the purchase of the hams and all the trimmings. 

In all, 50 families will benefit from the generous contributions this year. The deputies will begin loading their vehicles at 2:45 p.m. behind the Publix. The deputies will then be traveling to homes in the Ridgecrest/Baskins, Highpoint neighborhoods and the Cities of Seminole and Madeira Beach.

This is the eleventh year for the event, and the partnership between the organizations. They also partner to conduct similar events for Thanksgiving and Easter. 

Feeding families in need is not just a holiday project for the church. Throughout the year the church continues their work through the Beach Community Food Pantry. The pantry is open every week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Calvary Episcopal Church. The pantry is always accepting monetary donations and all non-perishable food products to keep the pantry going.
