What:  Early Monday afternoon, November 21, 2011, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested Jason Perez in connection with what is being called a drug-related shooting which occurred early Sunday morning, November 20th. Perez is being charged with two counts of Attempted Murder.

Where:  The shooting occurred in an alley near the residence of the suspect, at 2612 40th Avenue North, St. Petersburg.

When:  The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m., Sunday, November 20, 2011. The arrest was made early Monday afternoon, November 21, 2011.


Early this afternoon, Monday, November 21, 2011, Homicide detectives arrested Jason Perez in connection with the shooting of Kellie Shumaker during a drug deal related confrontation. Detectives say Shumaker was shot twice in the head.

She is in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center.

Homicide Detective Todd Greene spotted Perez early Monday afternoon as Perez was walking in the vicinity of 66th Street and Ulmerton Road. With uniform back-up, Greene placed Perez under arrest without further incident.

Perez is charged with two counts of Attempted Murder.

Detectives say Shumaker was with another male friend when they met Perez early Sunday morning. After Shumaker was shot, the other male subject fled on foot. Detectives say Perez fired multiple rounds at the fleeing man, but did not strike him.

Detectives say Perez is the only suspect being sought in the shooting.

The investigation continues.
