What: The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a motorcycle vs. pick up truck crash in Safety Harbor. The motorcycle driver was seriously injured in the crash.

Where: The crash occurred at the intersection of Phillippe Parkway and Suncrest Drive in Safety Harbor.

When: The crash occurred just before 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

How/Why:
According to investigators, the driver of the motorcycle identified as 58-year-old Daniel R. Ferrer was traveling north on Phillippe Parkway. The driver of the Dodge Ram, 77-year-old Gail P. Speagle was driving southbound on Phillippe Parkway and as she made a left hand turn onto Suncrest Drive, was struck on the passenger side by the motorcycle.

Ferrer was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported by air to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Speagle and her two passengers were not injured in the crash.

Ferrer was not wearing a helmet.

Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the crash.

Phillippe Parkway was closed in both directions until about 4:30 p.m. on November 5, 2011, while the on-scene investigation was being conducted.

The investigation continues.
