How/Why:

Detectives continue their investigation into the murder of 21-year-old Landy Martinez-Esquivel.

As a part of their investigation detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to identify three people who may have been in the area at around the time of the crime.

According to detectives, one of the individuals was going door to door soliciting, (possibly selling magazines), for college funds. He is believed to have been in the neighborhood sometime between 10:00 and 10:30 this morning. This individual is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with bushy hair.

Detectives believe that while in the neighborhood, this young man may have seen two other individuals who were reportedly walking east on 57th Avenue at a fast pace.

Descriptions on these two individuals are as follows:

1) White, Asian or Hispanic male in his 20s wearing baggy jeans.

2) White, Asian or Hispanic heavy set male possibly in his 40s.

As background: Deputies responded to the private residence at about 10:07 a.m. on December 21, 2011 to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived there was no answer at the front door. Deputies proceeded around the back of the home and found a rear door open and an interior door ajar. As they continued through the residence they discovered the body of a male, later identified as Landy Martinez- Esquivel, in a bedroom of the home.

Deputies retreated and contacted the Robbery Homicide Unit, which began its investigation.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Rob Snipes or Detective Ed Judy at 727-582-6200.
